MAXWELL COURTS THANKSGIVING
HAIRCUT Remember the heavy branches overhanging courts 4 and 5 at Maxwell? Sonoma County Regional
Parks has given the nearby stand of trees a careful haircut, and healthful pruning. Result: no more overhanging branches, and, we hope, a reduction
in accumulated moisture and more light to help dry the courts.
Regional Parks will continue to work with the Ecology Center to monitor the welfare of these trees.

60' blended line court on regulation 78' court (#2)

Two 36' blended line courts on regulation 78' court (#1)
|
MAXWELL COURTS BLENDED LINES Courts 1 and 2 at Maxwell
have a new look. USTA has advised us that they will make an award of $3,000 in grant funds to assist with the Maxwell
resurfacing (total project cost:$18,750), and they specifically directed that the total work include blended lines on the courts for junior
play. We agreed to do two courts, and you will see the lines, in a pale blue, that lay out a 60' court on court #2,
and two 36' courts on court #1. Blended
lines are a major component of the USTA's national 10 and Under Tennis initiative, and are being adopted across the country.

3rd Annual RALLY FOR THE CURE SATURDAY,
MAY 21, 2011 (9am
- 3:00pm) $3937 RAISED

|

In January 2011, USTA NorCal honored SVTA
as Outstanding Community Tennis Association in the ACES (Awards Celebrating Excellence in Service) program. Above: Judy Muller and Dick Gould, legendary
Stanford tennis coach.
Particularly
noteworthy for SVTA were the programs in Junior Tennis and the CommonBond Foundation English Camp designed for English learners (both partially supported
by Kiwanis and Rotary of Sonoma) and the Quick Start Program (encouraged by the USTA). Over 700 Sonoma Valley youth have participated in these programs. The success of SVTA programs for
diverse youth and adults would not be possible without the hundreds of local tennis volunteers.
